Hi All,
Richard here once again as Michele is on the high seas. She seems to be having a great time as usual. Singer and Actress Claire Sweeney was onboard recently, (pictured here with Michele and her MD Jae Alexander)
and asked to meet Michele. Jae also offered to help us with our continuing search for Colin Keyes, alas still no concrete information.
The Matt Monro world is a bit quiet at the moment, although we are still ploughing on with our monthly podcast, this is now available on all podcast platforms including Spotify. It would be lovely if some of you could leave reviews, it all helps to spread the word. Of course, it goes without saying (although I’m going to say it anyway), that you are welcome to send any questions or messages to pod@mattmonro.com
Don’t forget to follow or subscribe on your favourite podcast provider.
The podcast homepage can be found here:-
Which also includes links to some of the most popular podcast services.
Our next podcast should be coming very soon (once I manage to get it edited!) and in a few months, should everything go to plan we hope to welcome our first guest!
Michele has mentioned on a couple of occasions that we hope to follow up the Live at the BBC set on streaming/download services soon, however, I’m currently trying to get access to a master for a recording currently held by the British Library – We have off-air versions but nothing beats a mastertape.
I know what many will say – “We want things on CD, not downloads” Unfortunately, this is out of our control. Currently, the deal between our media management company and the BBC only allows streaming/downloading. But not all is lost. If you buy from a service that offers high-quality downloads, such as Qobuz or 7Digital.
If you download as WAV or FLAC formats, you get perfect CD-quality files that can be burned to a CD.
Michele and I are fans of physical products but sometimes It’s just not economical to make discs. I still have a large number of Matt’s Live in Hong Kong 1962 discs on my shelf for instance. I’ve tried to persuade Universal to issue the Capitol remasters as a box set, but to no avail.
But there seems to be a little bit of a shift, this is a recent post on Facebook which we both applaud.
And sales of physical products have apparently plateaued, possibly increasing, so maybe there is hope.
I’m grateful to the wonderful people at Cherry Red, Caldera, Jasmine and others that employ my services and keep physical sets available. I even try myself with my latest release (A BBC soundtrack from Peter Skellern’s “Happy Endings” series) being the latest release on my own label – all thatnks to crowd funding.
By the way if anyone is interested in the sets I’ve remastered please check out my Discography – not 100% up to date, but i get round to it from time to time.
Matt’s YouTube traffic has been boosted recently by visitors from a show from the Philippines From what I can tell this is from a segment of a TV Show called Eat Bulaga! (Translated as Eat Surprise!). The segment is called The Clones and features singers doing impressions of famous performers.
Here’s the young man singing as Matt.
If it brings people to listen to the real Matt, then we are delighted,
Anyway, that’s enough of my rambling.
Until next month.
All the best
Richard
